Children's room
Little kingdom of big dreams | Children’s room for two girls on 12m²
I present to you the realization of a children’s room, with an area of 12 m² for two little girls. This is not just a children’s room – it’s a playroom, library, gym, classroom and bedroom all in one.
When the owners asked me to create a space for their two daughters, I knew that every inch had to make sense. And so I created this design.
The bunk bed rises like a castle, where each princess has her own kingdom – up or down, depending on her mood. At the request of the parents, I also included a trapeze in the composition, which encourages active movement and the development of children’s physical fitness, a place where little gymnasts or brave climbers emerge. This trapeze not only serves as a play element, but can also be transformed into a writing desk for the smaller girls to draw on.
One whole wall has been transformed into a practical storage system, where each of the girls has her own section of closet and shelves for toys or personal treasures. Although the furniture is made from Egger laminate in a combination of white and woodgrain, the natural element is brought in by the oak handles. These give the space a warmth and authenticity of wood that children’s hands will appreciate in everyday use.
Behind the door, a reading nook was created with a reading lamp and library lighting on the inside of the seating area – the perfect place for moments with favourite stories.
I was also thinking about the future. There is currently an open play space in the middle of the room, which will eventually turn into a work corner. One look in the visualizations shows this possibility as well. I separated the trapeze and the planned table with slats so that the edge of the table would not be dangerous when playing on the trapeze.
The walls are decorated with stickers that can be easily changed according to the age and interests of the children. The whole room plays in tones of white and wood with soft pink accents that whisper, “Yes, this is where the girls live!” Although the owners opted for a different wall color, the basic concept remained playful and practical at the same time.
Despite all the integrated features, there is still plenty of room in the room for free play and children’s adventures.
With this, as with all my designs, I have to think not only about a nice visualization, but also about how the furniture will actually be made. Part of my job is to draw out all the parts of the bespoke furniture for the cabinet makers to produce. When designing, I always think not only about aesthetics, but also about feasibility – how the boards will be joined, how the wood grain will go (whether horizontally or vertically), what height of drawers and shelves to design according to what will be stored in the cabinets.
This project proves that even in a small space it is possible to create a full-fledged children’s kingdom, where practicality meets the joy of life.
The gallery contains photos of the original state, a video of the 3D design, visualizations and a few photos from customers from the realization of the furniture.
