From childhood joy to profession: my story with the KonMari method

Article content

As the oldest of three children, I’ve always been close to cleaning, sorting, and organizing my space. Ever since I was a little girl, it was fun, comforting and brought me joy. I always felt that I could breathe and think better in an organized space.

When I became a mother, this passion of mine took on a new dimension. I enjoyed arranging children’s clothes and toys by colour and style, creating a system that not only looks good but also works.

We have also rethought our menu and the pantry has undergone a complete transformation. We started growing our own vegetables, drying herbs and building a habit of using things more consciously.

Even without any guidance, I intuitively did a major cleaning and reorganization of our space several times a year.

In 2017, I opened the book Magical Cleaning from Marie Kondo for the first time. It was love at first read for me. Its principles spoke to me in such a way that I felt like I had discovered a missing piece of the puzzle. At the time I had already completed an accredited interior design course and was working in a joinery workshop designing furniture and general interiors.

In August 2024, I found out that Marie Kondo is running a course for consultants KonMari of the method in London. I knew this was exactly what I wanted to do. In October 2024, I attended it in person.

Before the actual course, I had to go through our entire house and clean it according to her principles. Even though I’ve lived in an organized environment for years, this process taught me even more. It has transformed our home into a space that truly supports us and reflects our values.

I would like to stress one important thing – I am not perfect. There are days when our house is a mess, when hats and scarves are strewn on the hall closet, dishes in the kitchen. I’m tired, busy, with other priorities. But that’s when I appreciate the system we’ve created. Because when that cleaning moment comes, it only takes a fraction of the time.

My work – furniture and interior design –has always been my heart’s desire. But working as a consultant for KonMari methods has taken me even further. It’s more than just about order. It’s about a conscious approach to the space that is meant to serve us and bring us joy. It’s not about perfection, but about living in harmony with ourselves and our home. And that is something that fulfills me and that I wish to pass on to others.

My space is a mirror of my inner self – not perfect, but alive, changing, growing.
