Becoming a Certified KonMari Method Consultant has been a journey of personal growth, discipline and beautiful moments of transformation – not only in my own home, but in the lives of the people I help today. If you, too, have a desire to help people let go of chaos and create a home that truly represents them, I want to share with you the exact process of how you can become an official KonMari consultant.

KonMari A consultant is a professional certified by Marie Kondo itself and its team to use KonMari methods of cleaning and organizing a space. More about who is a KonMari method consultant in my article – Who is a KonMari consultant.

1. Basic requirements

There are a few basic criteria you need to meet before you even start the actual certification process:

• You must be at least 18 years old.
• Fluency in English, as the entire certification process is conducted in this language.
• Have a deep understanding of the KonMari philosophy and its principles.

2. Registration and preparation

The first step was to sign up for an official certification course. This is available in two formats – online or face-to-face. After paying for the course, I gained access to the consultant in training portal.

It was essential to read the books Marie Kondo before the actual course. This helped me to better understand the philosophy behind the method and prepared me for the initial test that is part of the preparation.

3. Transformation of own space

One of the key conditions was to go through the whole process KonMari of the method in your own home. This meant consistently cleaning my home according to each category:

• Clothing
• Books
• Papers
• Komono (various things)
• Sentimental objects

I documented each step thoroughly – taking before and after photos that had to be uploaded to my profile and sent to the KonMari team for approval. This phase was extremely important to me because I saw first-hand the huge impact KonMari has on my life.

4. Training course

The training course itself lasted three days. It included theoretical lectures, practical exercises and discussions with trainers KonMari of the method. If you attend the attendance form, you even have the opportunity to meet Marie Kondo personally , which is a huge inspiration. I attended this course in person in London in October 2024. On the course I met other future consultants from all over the world, we exchanged experiences and motivated each other. I also made friends, there were people from many countries on the course – Peru, Japan, Scotland, Brazil, USA, Netherlands, Germany, Croatia, Romania…

5. Practical part with clients

The course was followed by the practical part, which consisted of working with real clients. It was necessary:

• Complete a minimum of 30 hours of consultation.
• Have two clients that I have taken through the process KonMari.
• Produce 10 detailed reports from these consultations.

Each report had to include before and after photos, a detailed description of the process and feedback from the client. In addition, it was necessary to take one client through the entire process, which included a complete “cleaning festival” – i.e. all categories, and another with at least the clothing and book categories.

6. Final evaluation

Once I had completed all the required steps, I was able to submit my case studies for approval. Then followed:

• A final test focusing on theory and practice.
• Interview with a member of the KonMari team. The interview is scheduled via Zoom with one of the KonMari team for 30 minutes. We talked for almost 45 minutes and it was great, she filled me in on the latest instructions and I was able to ask questions about what I was interested in.
• Signing of the license agreement and payment of the annual membership fee.

7. Financial aspects

Being a Certified Consultant KonMari is an investment that requires financial preparation. Here are the main costs:

• Course price: 2500 – 3000 USD
• Annual membership fee: 500 USD
• Additional costs (for a full-time course): travel and accommodation

My personal experience

Becoming a certified KonMari consultant requires a significant investment of time, energy and money. However, it is a unique opportunity to combine a passion for organizing with helping others to create a more joyful and organized life.
